Projects - Process and Progress

The project that I was so proud of has now been completely re-built by the folks at Elsevier!
- Looks:
- not so good. Over complicated.
- Different button styles
- Graphics
- very poor.
- Menus built with images not sharp
- Code:
- built with tables and spacer gifs.
I shouldn’t go on because this is sour grapes!

I have now posted the first podcast section to the Migrant Cinema web site.
I wasn’t able to record the talks myself. They were recorded with a Sony D3 tape deck. This was fine but transferring to digital takes a long time. Always good to have something else to do while the audio transfers.
There is more...

The AHRA Conference web site is live. There are still a few gaps, but the site has all the information for delegates to the conference.
This site is built as static HTML which is OK, but we would benefit from some delgate login and maybe some user generated content.

I have added a section for books.
I am using the Amazon plug-in for ExpressionEngine to deliver book information. All that the editor needs to do is to enter the book title and and the ASIN number and the rest is automatic. The is an option for the researcher to add in their own notes about this book.

A good feature: when viewing films, it is possible for Project Participants to ask to borrow the DVD from the collection in the Project Library. How does this work?
By extracting the title, director and date from the ExpressionEngine tags, then we pass that via the URL to the email form page. The email message is then populated from the text in the last three segments of the URL.
Can’t be demonstrated unless you are logged in with correct permissions, but it really works.

Here is version 2 after client feedback. This is better - cleaner and with the sponsor logos at the top. The image at the top takes a bit too much depth maybe.

I have worked on this over Easter. This is a working prototype of the home page for the AHRA Conference.
The basis of the design was given by the client. The image and basic layout was proposed. Implementing this was a bit tricky because the repeating brick wall on the right needed to be always there whatever the size of the window and height of the content. Getting this working in Internet Explorer for Windows was achieved through ‘conditional comments’. More difficult was Internet Explorer for MAC to look right. I know this is not supported any more but you never know!
