Oxford Photographs

I live in Oxford, England. I started a web site devoted to Oxford Photographs that was intended to be a public web site for people to post their images of Oxford. I am now hosting my own Oxford Photos here and I leave the social picture galleries to Flickr which does a better job.

There are no doubts that Oxford is a very ‘photogenic’ city. From ancient college building to pleasure boating on the Cherwell; these subjects will be found in photo albums of visitors to Oxford from around the world. Visitors and residents alike have used their cameras to document the city and it’s people. Of course, the techniques of photography have changed since the days of Henry Taunt and his glass negatives. More recently, the photo album itself has become digital and images of Oxford are now presented on web pages everywhere.  I started www.inspiresoxford.net in 2002 and it was formed to create a ‘collective’ photo album; impressions of Oxford, by guests and residents. Anyone who has photographs of Oxford or surroundings could ‘post’ images to the site. A good number of people did post things up, but I have learnt that unless you engage fully with these ideas, they become dormant. I have found it hard to keep all these things going.  Still, it was a useful experience. I have learnt how to install and run (and customise) gallery software. I used PhotoPost and have since installed for a client on a project still in progress.  If anyone wants to make me an offer for www.inspiresoxford.net, then use this contact form to send me an email.

By the way I am Chris Jennings
