Sugar Art

How can you fail to admire the work that goes on in The Cake Shop?

In the Covered Market in Oxford we often pass by the window of the cake shop where they make and decorate cakes of all shapes and sizes. Yes, we know that it’s bad for the teeth, and actually, we never buy anything here. We have noticed today, that they have moved to larger premises, so we presume they must be successful.

Some of the cakes in the window are extraordinary in their richness and look as if they have been made for chocoholics. The characters that they depict on the surface of these sugar beasts are reminicsent of Wallace and Gromit.

One thing else to note; the shop is also the workshop. You see the finished cakes in the window, but you can also see the sugar artists making the cake characters.
