Largest Digital Image on the Web

Is this a record?

Slashdot pointed this out to me so I thought we should mention it too!

GigaPixel have created the an image of 8.6 Gigapixels in file size. The image of a fresco painted by Gaudenzio Ferrari in 1531 is presented using Flash so that users can zoom in to incredible detail. This takes 1.8 terrabytes of server space.

furthermore...

This will take some time for your system to get (even fast broadband), but it is worth a look. Also investigate the technical details section, if only to appreciate the amount of work that has gone into this piece.
