Bus Stop in Cyberspace

All the bus stops in this region are equipped with a display showing the next arrival times of buses.

I learnt today that by these displays are generated by satellite tracking technology which monitors the movement of vehicles. The position of the bus is beamed to the bus stops, which have unique Ids and this information is then updated at intervals and predicted bus departures are shown.

One very significant benefit of this system is that you can pick up this information for any bust stop on the web. This image shows the departure times for a bus-stop near to my home. A trip into town can now be timed to coincide with a bus departure. No more hanging around by the kerbside.
