Antiquarian Pages
Spent part of today at the Book Fair; a regular event that happens near to my home.
I like browsing these antique volumes and some years I have actually spent money! It seems remarkable how expensive some of these books can be. Island books catch my eye and, to be honest, if I had more to spend I might be tempted to enlarge my collection of island books. When I spot the word island on the spine of some leather volume, I do peak at the inside for a penciled-in price. But, for a vellum-bound edition of Treasure Island at £750, I kept my wallet firmly in my trousers!
Next noticed was a copy of Desolation Island by Patrick O’Brien, a little cheaper at £380.
I’ll keep buying books because I like to read them, rather than as a collector, although I can see the attraction of such an occupation.
