Thinking with Type: A Critical Guide for Designers, Writers, Editors, and Students (Design Briefs)

Thinking with Type

Ellen Lupton

Published by: Princeton Architectural Press on September 2004

A book that is really beautiful to look at but not good to touch. Students of design (yes for the web) and typography need this book. The examples (contemporary and from the past) are terrific. The paper is too thick and I find that handling the book is uncomfortable because pages are bound too tight.

Check out these 2 web sites:

Look at this book at Amazon

Here could be some more books that are just as useful

But they may not be in my bookshelf

Grid Systems: Principles of Organizing Type (Design Briefs)

Graphic Design: The New Basics

Type and Typography: Portfolio Series

Making and Breaking the Grid: A Layout Design Workshop

Getting it Right with Type: The Do's and Don'ts of Typography

The Elements of Typographic Style

Stop Stealing Sheep and Find Out How Type Works

What Is Graphic Design? (Essential Design Handbooks)

Typography Workbook: A Real-world Guide to Using Type in Graphic Design

DIY: Design it Yourself (Design Handbooks)
