Powerpoint Performer

This is an update of an earlier version. I seem to give this talk annually, so I figured I should do a bit of work on it and then re-post. Is this an acceptable thing to do on a blog?

A couple of years ago I watched the Paul McCartney 'Back in the US' film of his tour, I was impressed by the incredible collage of digital film, animation and video that was projected behind the stage. Maybe this is typical now at pop concerts. I have heard about VJs, a new breed of nightclub and dance scene entrepreneurs who can construct, in real time, mixed digital video projected to go with the music.

Of course this may be a far cry from standing in front of class to give a 'Powerpoint' presentation, but still it's a performance, and how can we make it work well?

No Direction homepage

Back in 1970, I looked a bit like Dylan. It wasn't that I tried. My hair was long, curly and dark, and my modest diet gave me the gaunt look.

Last night, like many others of my generation, I reflected on those 'long hair' days, when I strummed along to 'Girl from the North Country', 'To Ramona' and 'My Back Pages'. The Martin Scorsese documentary - 'No Direction Home' was enthralling but also disappointing.

How to install tinyMCE for ExpressionEngine

I have been running the wysiwyg editor; tinyMCE on a couple of sites and have now succesfully installed within a copy of ExpressionEngine 1.3. In fact it doesn't seem any different from my experience with 1.2. It seems like a few people might find it useful to get some advice as to how to set tinyMCE up. One point before we begin though; tinyMCE does not work with Safari on MAC (up to version 2 anyway) and does not work with Opera as far as I can tell. The best browser on any platform is FireFox and it works with this and Mozilla / Netscape. Internet Explorer is also fine although you will need to take care when copying and pasting content from Word. Here, then are the steps to get tinyMCE working:
